Sixes cricket starts on seventh

KARON: The Lighthouse Phuket International Cricket Sixes tournament gets underway on April 7 at Karon Municipal Stadium.
The 18 teams taking part in this year’s tournament include Gauhati Town Cricket Club from India, Lamma CC from Hong Kong and PALPA CC from Pakistan, as well as the Perth Postels and the Warathais from Australia.
Local teams include the Green Man Gunnas and the Phuket Cricket Union.
Phuket Gazette readers who take a copy of the newspaper with them to the four-day tournament have the chance of winning a tournament T-shirt or cap.
Brian Jacks, the former British judo Olympian, super athlete and now corporate ambassador of the main sponsor, Lighthouse International Property, Thailand, said that the range of nationalities taking part “is a great advertisement for cricket and Phuket.”
He continued,” We [the sponsors and organizers] are not only supporting the tournament, but also the people and the tourism industry of Phuket.”
The series runs until April 10 and play begins at 8:30 am each day.
