Ricky Martin to tour Phuket
PHUKET CITY: Latin American pop singer Ricky Martin will arrive in Thailand tomorrow to tour tsunami-hit areas and assist orphaned survivors, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said.
The tour is being conducted through the People for Children project, which Martin heads though his Puerto Rico-based Ricky Martin Foundation.
The group fights against sexual exploitation of children, but in Thailand will focus on raising awareness of the plight of children orphaned by the December 26 disaster.
The heartthrob singer is expected to confer with Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Surakiart Sathirathai tomorrow morning before holding a press conference in the capital.
He will arrive in Phuket on Wednesday at 10:30 am aboard Thai flight TG203 and then travel to meet victims on the island. On Thursday he will tour Khao Lak before flying off to the Netherlands on Friday.
Mr Martin’s hits include Livin’ La Vida Loca, but there are no plans for a charity concert during his brief stay in Thailand.
