Public hearing for B300m Chalong Marina project
CHALONG: A public hearing about plans for Phase II of the Chalong Marina Project, which aims to add moorings for more than 200 vessels to Chalong Bay, will be held tomorrow at Muang Phuket School, just south of Chalong Circle, at 1:30 pm.
The meeting will gather public feedback about the design and environmental impact of the expanded project.
Phuket Vice-Governor Worapoj Ratthasima will lead the meeting, joined by Marine Department Director Werawan Sirigarmpen and a team of consultants from the Marine Department’s Technical and Planning Division.
It was decided to draw up plans for Phase II of the project at a meeting at Provincial Hall on January 5, led by Phuket Governor Niran Kalayanamit and K. Werawan. That meeting was also attended by Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (OrBorJor) President Anchalee Vanich-Thepabutr and officers from Chalong Tambon Administration Organization (OrBorTor).
The Marine Department expects to be informed tomorrow whether the 300-million-baht budget required for Phase II has been approved.
Phase I of the project, which will see 44 moorings added to Chalong Bay at a cost of 70 million baht, has already been approved, but construction has yet to commence. A public hearing for the initial phase was held in October 2005.
