Prison governor dies in road accident

KRABI: The man appointed Chief of Phuket Prison just two months ago has been killed in a road accident.

Saree Udom died when his car collided with a motorcycle then hit a tree, on Kho-Tor Rd in Krabi on January 22.

K. Saree was on his way from Phuket to his house in Surat Thani. It is thought he died instantly, although it took two hours to remove his body from the vehicle.

His body was taken to Ao Luk Hospital, before being moved by relatives to K. Saree’s home town of Nakhon Sri Thammarat for five days of funerary rituals.

On January 26, K. Saree’s body is due to be taken to Surat Thani, where the cremation will take place on February 3, at Wat Ponimit.

K. Saree had recently been praised for his work in the aftermath of the tsunami, when he organized prisoners to search for victims and collect the bodies of the dead.

The Department of Corrections has appointed Nopphon Rattanawai as acting Prison Chief.
