Port murders hit double digits

PHUKET: A man believed to be a Burmese fisherman was found dead on the shore opposite the Rattanachai dry dock in Phuket’s fishing port early yesterday morning. The murder was the tenth this year in the same area. Pol Capt Chaum Kaosrisuwan of Phuket Town Police Station told the Gazette that the man, as yet unidentified, had died from eight stab wounds around his face and neck. One wound went completely through his neck from back to front. Pol Capt Chaum believes that, as with earlier murders in the port, the wounds were inflicted with a sharpened steel reinforcing bar. The man is estimated to have been between 23 and 25 years old. He is thought to have died at least five hours before his body was found at around 6:45 am. “I asked people around there but nobody had seen the victim before. However, I’m certain that he was Burmese because of the clothes he was wearing and the place he was found,” Capt Chaum said.
