Phuket hosts Asean and Asia Conference on Literature and Culture
PHUKET: Phuket for the first time ever is hosting the Asean and Asia Conference on Literature and Culture, which is being held at the Phuket Merlin Hotel.
The conference, which aims to encourage Asian writers and help Asian people exchange culture and traditions, has drawn writers and cultural experts from 16 countries throughout the region.
“We are family. We support each other and help each other be stronger and we want to show the world that we are united, despite our different languages and cultures,” said Minister of Culture Veera Rojjanarat, who spoke at the opening ceremony on Wednesday.
“This conference will help push forward the Asian arts.”
Phuket City Mayor Somjai Suwansupana was also in attendance, along with other Phuket officials, and expressed her excitement for Phuket to be hosting such an event.
“All the amazing things here, such as the scenery, the culture, the art and the sea, make people love Phuket. I’m glad that the island was chosen to host this event,” she said.
The conference, which opens at 8:30am daily, concludes tomorrow at 4:30pm. Everyone is welcome to join any of the events.
