PHUKET: Representatives from more than 40 countries are expected to take part in the Ministerial Meeting on Regional Cooperation on Tsunami Early Warning Arrangements to be held at the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa on Friday and Saturday.
Organizations expected to take part include the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, the United Nations Special Coordinator for Tsunami Relief, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, the United Nations Development Programme, the World Meteorological Organization, and the International Tsunami Information Center.
Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will meet his Cabinet colleagues and local officials tomorrow at the Royal Phuket City Hotel to discuss the recovery of the six provinces affected by the tsunami, as well as domestic measures for a warning system.
Thailand’s US$10-million (approximately 386-million-baht) contribution to a voluntary United Nations-linked trust fund to pay for the early-warning system will also be on the agenda.
