Phuket Rotary joins flood relief efforts
PHUKET: The Rotary Club of Patong Beach staged a collection walk along Phuket’s renowned Soi Bangla on Tuesday night, raising money to help provide aid to victims of the floods in and around Bangkok.
“We raised 30,000 baht during the collection drive on Bangla Road. We had four different teams of people out collecting donations,” said former Club President Mark Pendlebury.
The team walked the street from 9:30pm to 11pm, accepting donations from local staff and popular street entertainers, and placing stickers on them to mark that they had made a donation.
“The charity walk to raise money for flood victims was a success last year, so we decided to do it again this year. It’s an uplifting experience for many of our Rotarians as well as non-Rotary members.
“We thank all the people who made donations and we hope we have inspired others to continue to help others in need,” he added.
Active Patong Rotary member Able Wanamakok told the Gazette, “The money raised by the many generous donors in Patong will be sent to the flood victims. Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so through our rotary club’s general charity account.”
