Nun’s body found in klong

PHUKET: A body of an unidentified woman, believed to have been a nun, was found in the klong behind the Chao Fa Nai Rd branch of the Siam Commercial Bank on Thursday evening. Pol Maj Phailin Jamjomrat of Phuket Town Police Station told the Gazette that local people found the body in the canal. It was dressed in white nun’s robes and the head had been shaved. “The villagers at first thought it was a shop mannequin, and threw stones at it to make it float away. Then they realized it was a dead body and called us,” said Maj Phailin. The woman, who was about 65 years old, is thought to have died about 12 hours before the body was found. The police believe that it may have floated from elsewhere. The pathologist reported to police that he had found no wounds on the body and that the woman had not drowned, so it was possible that she had fainted before falling into the water. Maj Phailin said he had checked with all the temples in Phuket and none had reported that any nuns were missing. The body is being kept at Phuket Town Police Station in the hope that relatives will contact the police and collect it.
