New Phuket governor arrives

PHUKET: Newly appointed Phuket Governor Dr Chokchai Dejamornthan and his wife Raweewan Dejamornthan, who is the new president of the Phuket Red Cross, received a warm welcome on their arrival in Phuket this morning.

About a hundred people from both government and the private sector showed up to welcome the couple at Phuket airport at 10:30am.

In keeping with tradition, Governor Chokchai visited several places on the island, including the City Pillar Shrine in Thalang, the Heroines’ Monument on Thepkrasattri Road, and the Luang Por Cham statue at Wat Chalong.

Gov Chokchai will attend the go teng pole raising ceremony at Jui Tui Shrine at 5pm to mark the start of the Phuket Vegetarian Festival, and then head off to Phuket FantaSea at 9pm.

“I am thankful for the warm welcome I have received today. I hope we can work well together for the benefit of Phuket,” he said.

Governor Chokchai is also scheduled to meet Phuketians at his official residence tomorrow morning.
