Murdered man found near fishing port
PHUKET: A man thought to have been a fisherman was murdered in front of a warehouse belonging to the Phuket Provincial Administration Organization, on Soi Si Sena, near Phuket’s fishing port, on Thursday night. Pol Lt Palichart Jaturonpan of the Phuket Town Police Station told the Gazette that the man, as yet unidentified, died from six stab wounds to his back. He had also been hit in the face with a blunt object. The police believe the wounds in the dead man’s back were inflicted – as is the case in most of the murders in the fishing port area – with a sharpened piece of steel reinforcing bar. The man is estimated to have been 25 to 30 years old. He is though to have died at least 10 hours before his body was found, at around 7 am. This is a second corpse found in the area in the space of a week. Lt Palichart said that investigators believe the victim was probably from a fishing boat and had been killed during a brawl with other fisherman.
