Movies, porn nabbed in raid

PATONG: Officers led by the Deputy Commander of Phuket Provincial Police, Pol Col Apirak Hongtong, seized fake and smuggled goods valued at 1 million baht in raids in Patong last night. The haul consisted of 4,500 foreign movie and music CDs and 100 porn film VCDs. The owner of the shop, on the beach road, was arrested. Three other shops on the beach road were also raided, with 460 copies of brand-name bags and purses taken by officers for destruction. Smuggled video cameras and binoculars were removed from a fourth shop. One of the shop owners remains at large. Tharadol Thongruang, Deputy Director of the Phuket Commercial Affairs office, told the Gazette that police would continue to pursue vendors and manufacturers of fake goods.
