Motorbike smash victim recovering

PHUKET CITY: Bangkok Hospital Phuket has listed motorcycle crash victim Steve Donnelly of Britain as conscious and in stable condition, though he is still connected to breathing apparatus.

On Tuesday the hospital issued an urgent appeal through the Gazette and other avenues for donations of rare A-negative blood for Mr Donnelly, who was involved in a road crash in which he broke 11 ribs and both collar bones, and punctured a lung.

Today Piyanooch Ananpakdee, the hospital’s Senior Marketing Communications Manager, told the Gazette that the blood had been sourced in time to save him through the Thai Red Cross Society in Bangkok.

Although the need for the rare blood type is no longer critical in this case, those seeking to make donations directly for Mr Donnelly may still do so by contacting the hospital’s lab, K. Piyanooch said.

Those seeking to make donations of other types of blood should contact the blood bank at Vachira Phuket Hospital, she added.
