Man drowns at Nai Harn

NAI HARN: Beach vendors yesterday discovered the body of a 19-year-old man who was swept off the rocks by a large wave at Nai Harn Beach on Sunday. Suriya Lannoi, a gas station attendant in Rawai, was standing on rocks with five friends at about 4 pm when they were all knocked into the sea by a large wave, Pol Maj Anek Mongkol of Chalong Police Station told the Gazette. K. Suriya’s body was taken back to his home province of Krabi for burial. This was the second drowning in Phuket on Sunday; a Hong Kong tourist also died in the sea off Bang Tao Beach. The body of another man, believed to be a Burmese fisherman, also washed ashore yesterday, at the end of Laem Tukkae on Koh Sireh. The body had six stab wounds, three in the chest and three in the back, which police believe were made with a sharpened piece of steel reinforcing bar. Pol Capt Rassada Klungwong, of Phuket Town Police Station, said, “None of the local residents or fishermen in the area has been able to identify the body. “The victim may have been murdered elsewhere, after which his body was dumped in the sea. We believe he was killed two days before his corpse was discovered.”
