Local phone book swamps server

PHUKET: Following a bulletin last Wednesday announcing that the deadline for listings in the 2006 Gazette Guide (local “yellow” pages) would be tonight, October 31, the Gazette web server has been under heavy pressure and has suffered sporadic downtime. In what may be a reflection of the recent surge in local business confidence, approximately 480 new listings and/or updates have been entered online over the past 72 hours alone.

To compensate for the server lapses, the Gazette is extending the deadline for new listings and updates to 6 pm on Friday, November 4. Listings received after that time will not appear in the 2006 hard-copy telephone book.

Businesses wishing to enter themselves into the directory, or to check the accuracy of their current listing, may do so at https://thethaiger.com/guide/index.asp Basic listings are free of charge, but must be entered directly into the Gazette website by the businesses themselves. Entries / revisions are not accepted by telephone or email.

The hard-copy phone book contains some 3,000 listings and is scheduled for delivery to the island’s hotel rooms, retailers, and local residents on or about January 20. With the Gazette Online always on top in Google under virtually all key Phuket search terms, (‘Phuket Yellow Pages’, for example), the electronic version of the directory receives a minimum of 200 visitors every day.
