Finn struck by car while crossing Phuket Road

PHUKET: A 25-year-old Finnish man was struck and injured by a car as he was crossing the road in Kamala early this morning.

Robin Straka had crossed the Kalim-Kamala Road to use the ATM at a Tesco Lotus. On his return, he suddenly stopped walking, and seemed to be thinking about something, witnesses told police.

“That was when he was hit by a car coming from Kamala,” Lt Prasert Thongprom of the Kamala Police told the Phuket Gazette.

Rescue workers were contacted at about 1am, and took Mr Straka to Patong Hospital to receive treatment for his head injuries.

Although there was a traffic light not far from the scene, the light was flashing at the time of the accident, Lt Prasert said.

The driver of the car, who police decline to name for reasons unknown, remained at the scene and was questioned. He has not yet been charged.
