Czech Republic names Honorary Consul for Phuket
PHUKET CITY: Anurak Tansiriroj, Managing Director of Phuket International Hospital, has been appointed Honorary Consul for Phuket for the Czech Republic.
K. Anurak today met Phuket Governor Niran Kalayanamit and invited him to the official opening of the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Phuket, to be opened by the Czech Ambassador to Thailand Ivan Hotek at The Metropole hotel on Tuesday.
“There are presently about 5,000 Czech tourists who visit Phuket each year, and we would like to see that number increase in the years to come. We think that having a Czech consulate will serve as another attribute to entice prospective tourists,” K. Anurak told the Gazette.
“The consulate office will be in the new building of the Phuket International Hospital that is currently under construction. I’m in the process of consulting with the Phuket Chamber of Commerce to improve the relationship between Phuket and the Czech Republic.
“I am discussing a charter flight service between the Czech Republic and Phuket with the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Southern Region 4 office. Most Czech tourists are going to Pattaya instead of Phuket because of its close proximity to Bangkok, and the perceived idea that it is cheaper than in Phuket,” he added.
“I am confident that I can persuade more Czech tourists and businesspeople to come to Phuket but the language differences pose some difficulties. However, we will work beyond these obstacles to foster an amicable relationship between the two countries,” he said.
K. Anurak serves as an intermediary for the Phuket Provincial Court and the Central Juvenile and Family Court. He is also a former president of the Rotary Club of Phuket.
