Couple injured in acid attack

PHUKET CITY: A woman was seriously injured after having acid thrown in her face on Friday. The woman’s boyfriend was also injured in the attack.

Pol Sub Lt Thada Sodarak, Duty Officer at Phuket City Police Station, told the Gazette that the injured man, Pissanu Praduppet, told police that his wife had committed the attack after he had asked her for a divorce.

The couple had lived apart for two months after Pissanu left their house in Saphan Hin to go and live with his new girlfriend, who police named only as “Ya”. Pissanu had met Ya in a karaoke lounge in Phuket City, Lt Thada said.

After Pissanu told his wife, Nirat, that he wanted a divorce, she followed him to Ya’s house where an argument broke out. Nirat then pulled out a can of acid she had been hiding and splashed it on her husband and his girlfriend.

Ya sustained serious burns to her face. Pissanu’s chest and right hand were also burned in the attack.

Nirat then fled the scene, Lt Thada said.

The victims were taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital.
