Committee to probe shoddy road
CHERNG TALAY: Following a protest by villagers on Wednesday about the poor quality of a new concrete road in Moo 2, Cherng Talay, a special committee has been formed to investigate the handling of the 4-million-baht budget for the project, and the officials involved. Siri Yokthong, chief of the Cherng Talay Tambon Administration Organization (OrBorTor), said yesterday that the OrBorTor committee had asked the chief of Thalang District, Khantee Silapa, to set up the committee. K. Siri said the committee will comprise the members of the OrBorTor, the civil engineer from the Thalang District and his OrBorTor counterpart, and five village representatives. At a meeting on Wednesday following the protest, K. Siri said, a spokesman for the road contractor, Jor94 Partnership, blamed villagers for the damage. He said the road was in poor condition because villagers had driven on it before the concrete was completely dry. However, he also gave assurances that the one-year guarantee on the work stipulated in the company’s original contract would be honored.
