Broken heart drives Norwegian to suicide

PATONG: Police believe a 31-year-old Norwegian tourist hanged himself at the weekend because his Thai girlfriend had found another man. Officers from Kathu Police Station were called to a house in Phra Barami Rd about 3.30 am on Saturday where they found the man’s body in a rented room. His girlfriend had earlier discovered the tourist, who was hanging from electric wiring. Five empty cans of beer were on the floor. Police named the dead man as Goran Engen. Pol Capt Komdej Pohthong, of Kathu Police Station, said foul play was not suspected. Mr Engen arrived in Phuket late last year. Police said they were told he fell for a Thai girl and they began living together, but then she started a relationship with an American. Police have notified the Norwegian Embassy.
