Ao Yon sailing club faces closure

AO YON: David Ratcliffe, Commodore of the Phuket Yacht Club, has called a special meeting of members this Sunday, starting at 2:30 pm, in the hope of staving off the club’s closure due to financial woes.

Mr Ratcliffe explained in a email to members, “Your presence is urgently required. The subject of discussion will be the future of the Club. At this stage is does not seem viable to continue… operation.

“We have the current lease available until April 2006, we would then have to commit to a continuation of the lease for a further three years. With the current financial situation, the committee are at present not able to commit to this lease extension,” Mr Ratcliffe said.

“We understand that last year has been a critical year for all our members following the tsunami, but we all need to find a way forward if the Club is going to continue,” he added.

“This is a do or die situation. I urge you to attend.”
