Another fishing port murder
PHUKET TOWN: A man was found murdered in the fishing port in Mu 7, Tambon Rassada, early yesterday morning. Pol Maj Thanet Phuangmanee of Phuket Town Police Station told the Gazette, “A crewman from a fishing boat told me that as he was moving fish from the boat to the dock he saw the body floating in the water. He then called us.” He said that the victim had been stabbed 34 times, in the front and in the back. He added that – as with previous murders in Phuket Town’s fishing port area – the wounds appear to have been inflicted with a sharpened steel reinforcing bar. Police estimate the dead man was between 25 and 30 years old. He was wearing a green T-shirt, a raincoat and jeans, and had a gold earring in his right ear. He is thought to have died at least six hours before his body was found. Maj Thanet said, “As yet, we have been unable to identify the victim or determine his nationality. No one has given us any information about him. We are waiting for relatives to come and identify the body at Wachira Hospital.” It is the second murder of this type this year. Last year, 14 similar murders occurred in the area.
