A Thai woman is taking legal action against her girlfriend, who physically assaulted her and killed her cat by throwing it from the 21st floor of a condominium in Pattaya yesterday.

The story of Tara and her cat was shared via her friend’s Facebook account yesterday, May 14. The friend shared images of Tara cradling her motionless cat, Minjoo, as she stood outside her condominium, visibly distraught.

The images also depicted evidence of physical harm inflicted by Tara’s partner, whose identity remains undisclosed. Additional details were provided alongside the images.

“You (Tara’s girlfriend) severely assaulted my friend and then threw her cat from the 21st floor! Are you still human? What did the cat do wrong? What were you thinking? We will seek justice. You are too cruel. Rest in peace, Minjoo.”

The story garnered attention from a lot of Thai netizens leading to the hashtag #RipMinjoo (#ripมินจู) trending on Thai Twitter.

The Watchdog Thailand Foundation (WDT) also shared the story on its Facebook page and offered to help Tara seek justice. The foundation later revealed further details, stating that a heated argument between Tara and her girlfriend led to the cat’s death.

According to the WDT, the disagreement escalated into a violent altercation, during which Tara’s girlfriend physically attacked her with a knife. Tara subsequently fled and sought refuge in the bedroom.

The girlfriend redirected her aggression towards Minjoo, who was positioned outside the bedroom. She issued a threat to harm the cat unless Tara emerged and tragically followed through by hurling Minjoo off the balcony.

Suspect defends herself

Tara and WDT filed a complaint against the suspect at Mueang Pattaya Police Station, accusing her of physical assault, animal abuse, and property damage.

The girlfriend was summoned for questioning and admitted to assaulting and threatening Tara but denied intentionally killing the cat.

The suspect claimed that she carried the cat in her arm and stood near the balcony when a loud noise from the argument scared Minjoo, causing the cat to run and fall off the condo’s balcony. She apologised Tara and insisted that she never hated or intended to harm Minjoo.
