Shooting for justice: Ex-Thai champion takes aim at cheating soldier husband
A former shooting champion of Thailand sought help from social media influencer Guntouch “Gun” Pongpaiboonwet after her cheating soldier husband faced no punishment from the Royal Thai Army (RTA) and refused to compensate her as ordered by the court.
The former national athlete, 50 year old Jarinporn Daengpiam, held a press conference today, September 9, to bring the matter to public attention and seek justice. Jarinporn explained that she married her 57 year old husband 20 years ago and they have two children together.
According to Jarinporn, her family life had been stable until her soldier husband became involved with a 24 year old mistress, a soldier with the rank of sergeant major, whom he met at the War Dogs Centre in Nakhon Ratchasima, Isaan, last year.
Jarinporn noticed that her soldier husband was taking care of this female soldier beyond his professional duties. He paid for her driving lessons, car fuel, smartwatch, and other expenses for which she did not have concrete evidence. This female soldier was also in a relationship with another soldier.
Jarinporn decided to secretly install a GPS device in her husband’s car and discovered that he had taken the woman to a love hotel in Ratchaburi.
With this evidence, she sued her husband and won the case. The court ordered her husband to pay her 1.2 million baht in compensation and ordered the mistress to pay her 600,000 baht. Additionally, both were supposed to face disciplinary action according to RTA regulations.
Seeking dismissal for both
Jarinporn revealed that the two soldiers involved in the indiscretion have not faced any punishment. They remain in their positions, with her ex-husband merely transferred to another department and his pension reduced.
Jarinporn stressed that she had no intention of tarnishing the reputation of the Royal Thai Army (RTA); her aim was purely to seek justice for herself.
While some may view this as a personal matter unrelated to the organisation, it is a significant issue for her. She sought the removal of the mistress from the RTA and left it to her ex-husband’s superiors to determine whether he should be dismissed.
Gun promised to follow up on Jarinporn’s case and later accompanied her to the RTA headquarters at 3pm after the press conference.
ThaiRath reported that Jarinporn is one of Thailand’s legendary shooting athletes. She won the gold medal in the women’s air rifle competition at the 1993 SEA Games in Singapore and was once ranked eighth among the world’s leading markswomen.
Fortunately, Jarinporn did not consider using her sharpshooting skills to resolve the adultery issue, as occurred in similar cases that previously made headlines.
