The Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus School held a memorial ceremony for one of its teachers, a significant faculty member, who was tragically lost in a teen shooting incident. The event occurred around 8.30am today.

The school is now increasing its security measures to ensure such incidents don’t reoccur.

The 50 year old Assistant Director of Human Resources and Budget, Chanatsikarn Maneein, alongside Lerthsak Chamkhlai, Assistant Director of Administration, represented the school faculty and addressed the media.

Teacher Jeab, whose real name is Sirada Sinprasert, has been with the school since 1989, serving devotedly for nearly 27 years. She was known for her dedication to students, and her support to fellow teachers and parents. Her loss is deeply felt by the entire school community.

Now, the school is taking steps to provide initial assistance. The school administration, the Parents Association, and the Alumni Association have gathered funds to help with the funeral expenses, which will be recorded and collected by the accounting department.

The collected amount will be formally handed over to Teacher Jeab’s parents, as she was the sole caretaker of her family, reported KhaoSod.

School security tightened

Chanatsikarn revealed the school always had a strict screening process but added they will ramp up security measures even more.

“Only vehicles with the school sticker are allowed inside the school premises. Parents usually wait outside the school to pick up their children. We have a single entry and exit point, ensuring students cannot leave the premises on their own. Anyone entering the school can only do so through the main gate.”

Lertsak paid tribute to Jeab, highlighting how highly valued she was at the school.

“Everyone was shocked by this incident, as it was something that should not have happened in our school. As for security around the school, local police from Thung Mahamek Station have coordinated with the school and continuously reported on the case’s progress.

“Yesterday, they monitored the checkpoint in front of the school, implementing a detailed screening process with stickers and QR codes. The police will maintain this level of security from 6am to 5pm every day.

“As for the mental care of students, teachers have slowly been discussing the incident. We can’t deny that this event has affected the psyche of the administration, teachers, and all students. Everyone is scared and saddened by this sudden event.

“As for the safety measures for teachers and students, we have always had strict screenings. We have CCTV cameras installed everywhere in the school, something we’ve prioritised for a long time. After this, there will be even stricter security measures, and the various police stations have cooperated excellently. We will not let what happened be forgotten. We must do our best.”
