Ride-share rage: Bolt driver surrenders after slapping passenger (video)
A Thai Bolt driver surrendered himself to the police after slapping a female passenger inside her home in Chon Buri province on Saturday due to a payment delay.
The victim, 37 year old Jutathip Motanee, filed a complaint against the Bolt driver who physically assaulted her on Saturday, September 21, at Nongprue Police Station. Jutathip also provided police with two pieces of security camera footage showing the assault.
In the video, Jutathip and the Bolt driver are seen entering her home on Phattanakarn Road in the Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri. Another video shows the driver pushing Jutathip to the ground and attacking her.
The driver can be heard demanding the fare, while Jutathip promises to pay. She explained that she did not have cash but would transfer the fare to the driver’s bank account instead.
Jutathip told the police that she had booked the ride through the Bolt app and fell asleep in the cab. The driver woke her up at the destination, which was outside her village, and asked for the fare.
Jutathip said she did not have cash and had just realised that her mobile phone’s battery had run out. She then told the driver that she would enter her home to charge her phone and transfer the fare to his account.
Jutathip insisted that she informed the driver multiple times that she would transfer the fare to him after charging her phone but the driver refused to wait. He grabbed her head and pushed her to the ground before slapping her in the face.
Channel 3 reported that the Bolt driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, later surrendered himself to the police. He claimed that he and the passenger argued during the ride and that she spoke as if she would not pay the fare. Fearing he would lose his money, he followed her to her home and attacked her in anger.
The driver insisted that he did not intend to harm any passengers and acted aggressively only because he wanted the fare. The police did not disclose the punishment issued to the driver.
