Rasta roadie nearly roasted at roadside
NAKHON SRI THAMMARAT: A sound technician for the popular Thai reggae band “Marijuana” almost went up in smoke January 17, after the fuel system he had just installed in his sedan malfunctioned and exploded.
The technician, identified only as Charin, was driving from Surat Thani to Nakhon Sri Thammarat when he was almost lit up.
He was on his way to check the sound system in Country Home Bar, where Marijuana were due to play on January 18.
As he was driving along the Surat Thani-Nakhon Sri Thammarat road through Tambon Thung Prang in Sichon District at about 8:15 pm, K. Charin was alarmed to notice flames leaping up from the trunk of the car.
With the flames spreading quickly, K. Charin screeched to a halt and leapt out of the vehicle just seconds before it exploded as if in a Hollywood stunt scene.
Sichon District Police said the cause of the explosion was likely to have been a leak in the new gas tank that Charin had just had fitted into the boot of the car.
It was not reported if he had been puffing on his band’s namesake narcotic that day.
