The National Office of Buddhism (NOB) of Thailand filed a complaint with the police after its official Facebook page was hacked and flooded with porn pictures and videos.

More than 80,000 Buddhist followers were shocked by the series of pornographic pictures and videos shared by the NOB. The first porn content was shared early this morning, March 6, and the latest one was seen at about 2pm before all of the explicit content was deleted.

Thai netizens flooded the comment section of each explicit post with expressions of shock, while others shared hilarious messages teasing the site’s administrators for forgetting to switch accounts before sharing their favourite pictures and videos.

Unable to gain control of the page, the NOB asked the Facebook page of the Buddhist and Society News (BSN) to clarify the incident.

“Update on the official Facebook page of the NOB. The page was hacked to post explicit videos. Please help to report the explicit posts as spam.”

The BSN also encouraged all followers to access news regarding the NOB through its official website until authorities could regain control of the page and ensure the security of the account. Upon the last check, the NOB’s official website was experiencing prolonged loading times, but all content appeared to be intact.

During the press conference, the Director of the NOB, Intaporn Chaniam, disclosed that the hacker did not obtain any crucial or confidential information about the organisation. This was because the page was solely established for public relations purposes and did not store any data.

Intapon stated that he already filed a complaint on the matter at Phutthamonthon Police Station and would coordinate with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES) to find a solution to restore the Facebook page.

Intapon urged NOB’s page followers and other netizens to report each porn video and picture as spam so that the post can be automatically deleted by the Facebook team.
