Man found dead after falling from bridge in Chumphon
A 34 year old man was found dead after falling from Municipal Bridge 4 into Logotan Canal in Chumphon. His body was discovered yesterday, September 30, alongside his motorcycle, with documents and personal items left at the scene.
Police Lieutenant Supawat Chueasak, an investigator from Mueang Chumphon Police Station, received a report about the incident. The unfortunate event took place in Moo 2, Bang Luk subdistrict, Mueang Chumphon district, Chumphon province. Upon receiving the report, Supawat coordinated with doctors from Chumphon Ket Udomsak Hospital and rescue teams from the Saichon Foundation to investigate the scene.
At the scene, the rescue team found a black-and-red Yamaha motorcycle with a sidecar parked on the bridge. The engine was still running, and a black helmet lay on the ground nearby.
A pair of grey rubber shoes were also found next to the motorcycle. Inside the front basket of the motorcycle, police discovered two sets of copied identification cards and passport-sized photos, while another set was found under the seat.
The rescue team quickly launched a search operation and located the body of the 34 year old man from Tak Daet subdistrict, Mueang Phang Nga district, Phang Nga province, submerged in water over 2 metres deep. His body was retrieved and handed over to the medical team for an autopsy. Initial examinations revealed no signs of injury or foul play.
Investigations revealed that the man had previously worked at a scrap shop in the Pak Nam Chumphon area. Before the incident, locals had seen him park his sidecar motorcycle on the bridge and place documents in the front basket, reported KhaoSod.
He then stood at the edge of the bridge, leading the onlookers to believe he was fishing, so they did not intervene. The man was reportedly searching for a job but had been unsuccessful, which may have led to his distress.
Police plan to question his relatives to uncover the exact cause of his actions and will conduct a thorough autopsy before allowing the family to perform religious rites.
