Man dies searching for shells while another dies in marathon

A man has died while searching for shells off Jomtien Beach, just south of Pattaya, after running out of oxygen. The man reportedly ran out of oxygen 9 metres underwater, when using scuba diving gear in deep waters. Rescue divers arrived at the scene and found 10 fishing boats about 1 kilometre away from the beach where local fishermen were searching for their friend. They say it took about 20 minutes to find the body of the 35 year old Thai man, in which they then pulled his body up onto the beach.

The rescue divers, from Pattaya Marine Rescue Department say the man was from Sri Racha, along with his fellow fishermen. Workers also claim the malfunction of the diving gear was possibly attributed to the man’s inexperience diving.

Meanwhile, another man was reported dead after taking part in a marathon in the Muang district of Chaiyaphum, in Thailand’s northeast. The 40 year old collapsed at the event, lost consciousness and was pronounced dead later after being taken to the Chaiyaphum hospital, where doctors say their initial findings conclude that he died of heart failure. However, an autopsy is underway to determine the man’s cause of death.

A city police investigator, identified the man as Noppadon Paisan, from Moo 3 village in tambon Lat Yai, Muang district. He was reportedly taking part in the Chaiyaphum Marathon that went from Chaiyaphum to Tat Tone road.
