Bangkok’s Great Driveway Drama – surrounding markets ordered closed
The Bangkok governor has ordered the immediate temporary closure of five markets operating in Seri Villa housing project in Prawet district, in a bid to find an acceptable solution to the decade-long dispute between residents and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) over the presence of the markets.

Governor Asawin Kwanmuang said on Wednesday that he would set up a panel within a week that comprises all parties in the conflict to find a solution, which is expected by next Wednesday.
The governor was speaking after visiting the markets and the housing project in Soi Srinakarin 55, behind Paradise Park shopping mall. The area has been the scene of a series of conflicts but came to national attention in recent days when the residents of one house were filmed attacking the pickup truck of a woman who parked in front of their gate. The video went viral.
The residents have accused the BMA of negligence by allowing markets in a residential area.
