The man, identified solely as Chia, faces a slew of charges, including unauthorised access to protected computer systems, attempted extortion, and audaciously slipping into Thailand.

The dragnet closed on this cyber-savvy fugitive after a company’s distress call about leaked customer data on social media triggered an international operation.

The joint probe, involving both Thai and Singaporean cybercrime squads, peeled back layers of digital deception linking Chia to over 70 cyber assaults stretching back to 2020.

His alleged victims? The who’s who of the corporate and governmental world, financial giants and delicate databases, where he played puppeteer, extorting ransoms and peddling hijacked data with impunity.

Adding flair to the sting, luxury cars and designer handbags worth in excess of 10 million baht were seized, painting a picture of high life funded by high crimes.

Cybersecurity firm Group-IB pinned at least 20 digital breaches on Thai soil and 50 more worldwide to Chia’s digital fingerprint, cementing his notoriety as a cybercriminal of global proportions.

As he cools his heels in Thai custody, cross-border collaboration between Singaporean and Thai police is set to delve deeper into his cyber escapades.

This high-profile bust sends a clear message to keyboard cowboys: every ghost leaves a trail, even in the borderless world of cybercrime.
