Decapitated body of missing teen found in Mukdahan pond
The decapitated body of a 15 year old teenager was found floating in a neighbour’s pond, sparking concerns among relatives about the cause of death. The body, discovered yesterday in Mukdahan, was identified as that of a boy who had recently argued with his mother before disappearing from home.
Yesterday, October 24, police and rescue teams received a report of a body found in Baan Dan Kham Pond, Mukdahan. Upon arrival, officers found the body facedown near the shore, wearing only black and navy blue tracksuit bottoms.
The skin appeared decomposed, likely from fish nibbling on the corpse. When the body was retrieved from the water, it was missing a head and right arm, suggesting the boy had been dead for around 14 days.
The landowner, who discovered the body, mentioned seeing a yellow jacket hanging on the fence about two weeks ago. Recognising it as belonging to a neighbour named Ratchanee, the landowner contacted her.
Ratchanee confirmed the jacket was her son’s, who had been wearing it before he disappeared. She initially thought her son had gone to a friend’s house, as he often did.
Ratchanee revealed that she had a heated argument with her son before he went missing. When she arrived at the scene and saw the body, she confirmed it was her son, who had been missing for over 10 days.
Police then conducted a post-mortem examination in collaboration with Mukdahan Hospital doctors and classified the case as a forensic investigation to determine the cause of death.
The rescue team and local volunteers worked until 10.30pm to search for the missing head and arm in the pond but had to halt due to darkness. The search resumed this morning, using large water pumps to drain the pond. Eventually, the missing body parts were found.
Nittaya, the 43 year old deceased’s aunt, revealed she had raised the boy since his parents separated when he was just over a year old. Last year, at 14, he had asked to live with his mother, and now, a year later, he was found dead.
Nittaya and the boy’s paternal family remain suspicious about the cause of his death and are seeking answers from the police, reported KhaoSod.
The police in Mueang Mukdahan, along with medical professionals, handed over the head and arm to the family for religious rites.
