To have a safe and worry-free trip, as well as to make the whole process easier, we have compiled a list of things you need to know before applying for a Special Tourist Visa.
Special Tourist Visa is intended for tourists who want to stay long-term in Thailand. The minimum duration of stay is 30 days. However, the visa is valid for 90 days and can be extended twice, to each additional 90 days. Therefore, the maximum period of stay in Thailand is 270 days or 9 months. To extend the visa, you can apply for an extension after the first stay period has ended. Note that the Immigration Department of Thailand and the Department of Disease Prevention will determine your extension of Special Tourist Visa.
Holders of Special Tourist Visa can enter Thailand from 1 October 2020 to 30 September 2021. This date is subject to change.
Besides the Special Tourist Visa, you also need a Certificate of Entry (COE), Covid-19 Insurance (which covers you for 3.5 million baht or around 100,000 USD), and fit to fly medical certificate stating that you do not have Covid-19. The fit to fly certificate needs to be issued at least 72 hours before your flight departure.
You cannot change or convert the special tourist visa into any other type of visa during your stay in Thailand. If you are found to be in breach of the conditions for entry into Thailand, the immigration will revoke your stay permit, and you will be banned from returning to the country.
Once you arrive in Thailand, you will have to follow all the regulations and safety measures set by the Thai Ministry of Public Health. You will be scanned upon arrival, and if you are tested positive for Covid-19 at the airport, you will be taken to an approved hospital right away. If you are tested negative, you will be transferred to your ASQ hotel and stay there for 15 days. Then, you will be allowed to experience everything Thailand has to offer
In addition to the Special Tourist Visa (STV), there is also the Tourist Visa (TR). This allows tourists to enter and stay in Thailand for a maximum of 60 days. Like the STV, tourists entering the tourist visa will also have to spend the mandatory 14-day quarantine.
Are you planning to return to Thailand during the Covid-19 pandemic? Thailand is slowly but steadily reopening. However, there are some requirements that must be met in order for you to be allowed entry. These include a Government-approved Covid-19 Thai travel insurance policy, Certificate of Entry (COE), Covid-19 negative test, and fit to fly certificate.
Meeting these requirements can be a hassle. You need to deal with complex bureaucracy, make sure you choose the right insurance policy, and possibly wait a long time until all of your documents are ready. But don’t worry, we’re here to help make everything easier and faster with the Thailand Re-Entry Package.
