WHO praises Thailand for being successful model of Covid containment

The director of the World Health Organisation is praising Thailand for being a successful model of Covid-19 containment. Dr. Panprapha Yongtrakul, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Health says the WHO director noted that despite Thailand having a population of 70 million with many densely populated cities, the total number of cases is less than 4,000 with only 60 deaths so far.

But she says that the success isn’t coincidental, but more of a result of over 40 years of investments by past and present governments to improve the public health infrastructure, including recruiting public health volunteers, which have played an important role in the regions during SARS and now Covid.

Today, Thailand is reporting 8 new cases of Covid-19, all arrivals from abroad, and undergoing state quarantine. Currently, the total number of cases is 3,874 with the death toll remaining at 60.

    1. What “proof” would you like?

      Seriously?

The idea that several million doctors around the world are all wrong and that they’re hospitalizing millions of people for no reason does seem a little bit … well … moronic.

  1. It’s not difficult to have low numbers with a low amount of testing being done, countries with high reported numbers are doing high amount of testing, testing as and when required will always produce low numbers, if they were to Screen test cities even provinces then the numbers would tell a much different story

    1. Actually it’s not so much “difficult” as impossible.

If the number of cases were higher then the number of excess deaths would also be higher. But they’re not. Actually they’re lower.

If the number of cases were higher then the number of symptomatic cases would also be higher. But they’re not. Mass temperature testing, basic though it is, hasn’t identified any cases.

If the number of cases were higher there’d be queues outside the hospitals as treatment is free, sick leave for the salaried is paid, and harvest time has only just started. But there aren’t any queues.

If the number of cases were higher they’d show up when anyone who applies for or renews a work permit or who gets admitted to hospital for any reason gets tested. But they haven’t, as despite all the tests that’s only happened once.

  2. This is the funniest thing all week I have read. Covid is here and well. It arrived last November shortly after the outbreak began in China. The lock downs, the testing, the fear mongering is what makes this a global scamdemic

  3. Praise from the WHO – one of the most corrupt organizations on the planet.

The only praise I’d give to the govt is for not running with the “inflate the numbers” part of the scam. They just stuck to quarantines, lock downs, curfews, and fear mongering – got to the same end result without jiggering with the numbers. Faint praise.

WHO should be de-funded, investigated, and criminal racketeering charges brought!

    1. “corrupt” in what way?

The only “evidence” is the by now normal and apparently (at least for plenty of Americans)acceptable mud-slinging by Trump, the fruit loop, with no supporting evidence at all.

… and what, exactly is the “scam”?

  4. Who believes WHO?
According to President Trump there are in the pay of the Chinese to give false reports on Chinese health.
They are the biggest funders of WHO.
President Trump stopped the US funding of WHO.

    1. “How many died as a result of all those restrictions?!”

Simple, factual answer since you ask: actually, close to 10% less than in previous years as the number of deaths DROPPED during the lockdown period.

Sorry if that isn’t the answer you wanted but nevertheless it is easily verifiable fact.

  5. For all those in favour of mass testing:

“The government’s £100bn Operation Moonshot mass Covid testing scheme is like “building a Channel tunnel without asking civil engineers to look at the plans”, experts have warned.

They say there is no evidence the plan will offer any benefit, the effectiveness of the tests it uses is weak, and the programme itself has been structured without input from the body responsible for advising ministers on screening strategy.

“It worries me that ministers … can wake up one morning saying let’s spend £100bn on this and not have it scrutinised – it would be like building a Channel tunnel without asking civil engineers to look at the plans,” said Dr Angela Raffle from the University of Bristol, who is also a consultant to the UK national screening programmes.”

    Oh dear.

The article goes on to point out that the tests used, as administered, have a 57% accuracy rate. Flipping a coin would give a 50% accuracy rate, so that hardly seems money well spent.
