Ale’s well that ends well: Drunk foreigner trips up in Phuket scuffle

An allegedly drunk foreigner chased a Thai man and attempted to attack him in Phuket. The victim fortunately escaped unharmed when the foreign man stumbled to the ground.

The Thai victim shared videos of the incident with the Phuket Times, today, April 9. The incident reportedly took place on the road leading to Rang Hill, a popular viewpoint in Phuket, on April 4.

The victim revealed on the page that the foreign man was under the influence of alcohol, as evidenced by the strong smell of alcohol emanating from his body. The foreigner shouted incoherently in the middle of the road and also broke into local houses in the area.

The victim said he decided to approach the foreigner to stop his disruptive behaviour. Unexpectedly, the foreigner refused to speak with him and instead attempted to launch an attack, prompting the victim to flee.

He stated that the foreigner ran so fast that he almost caught up with him before collapsing to the ground.

In the CCTV footage shared by the Thai victim, the foreign man is seen running after the Thai victim before suddenly stumbling.

Another video showed the foreigner pretending to fight by punching the air. He also gave the Thai man the middle finger and mocked him by performing a monkey-like gesture.

Netizens criticised local police officers, stating they had never seen them intervene during the rampage caused by foreigners. The videos of the incident were widely shared on social media, but no police officers were present.

Others claimed that foreigners were not even afraid of Thai police, as they could easily pay a fine. Many continued to blame the government’s free-visa policy for the violent and criminal behaviour of foreigners in the country.
