Road deaths dip in June
PHUKET: Sixteen people died in traffic accidents in Phuket in June, according to official figures obtained from Vachira Phuket, Thalang and Patong government hospitals. This was slightly less than the monthly average of 18 deaths for the year to date.
Of the 16 dead, 15 died in motorcycle accidents. The remaining death came in an accident involving a bicycle.
During the same period 1,069 people were injured in road accidents. Of these, 995 were on motorbikes, 42 were in cars, 31 were on bicycles, and one was a pedestrian.
Statistics for the first six months of the year show that 108 people died in road accidents, of whom 98 – or 90.7% – were on motorcycles.
