Popular Chalong merchant shot dead

RAWAI: Jenjira Samart, 42, a well-liked fresh fish merchant in Chalong, was shot dead on Saturday by an alleged ya bah dealer and addict. Pol Maj Jetsada Sangsuree, of Chalong Police Station, said that, after finishing work, K. Jenjira rode her motorcycle to her home at 35/1 Moo 4, Tambon Rawai, at around 3 pm. As she arrived, she was shot once in the back. Relatives rushed her to Wachira Phuket Hospital but she died on the way. “Jenjira’s relatives, who saw the killing, told us that Narong Samart, whom they described as a ya bah addict and dealer, shot her and then ran away,” Maj Jetsada said. He added that the relatives had told him that K. Jenjira had constantly lectured Narong, telling him to stop selling and taking ya bah (methamphetamine). Narong surrendered to Chalong police at 7 pm the same day and confessed to committing the murder. He took officers to a well in Rawai where he had disposed of the gun after the shooting. The weapon, a 9mm pistol, was recovered.
