OTOP gets lovely for Valentine-themed festival [video]

PHUKET: Couples planning on tying the knot in Phuket in February can take part in special Valentine-themed marriage ceremonies held at Sarasin Bridge between February 14 and 23.

“The 10-day ‘OTOP Lovely Phuket Festival’ will feature many activities to help promote tourism in the province,” said Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada.

Tourists, as well as locals, are welcome to register their marriages and receive special marriage certificates issued at the bridge joining Phuket and Phang Nga provinces.

Sarasin Bridge is historically considered a romantic spot among locals and will be decorated with a Valentine’s Day theme to mark the occasion.

Aiming to promote community tourism, various activities will take place at the bridge during the festival, including fashion shows and cultural exhibitions by local villagers. Various local produce will also be on offer, such as jellyfish delicacies from the OTOP (One Tambon One Product) Foundation.

There is no charge for marriages registered during the OTOP Lovely Phuket Festival. Couples wishing to register their marriage for the event can contact the Phuket Community Development Office at 076- 211 584 or 087-284 9676.
