Mobile Siam museum heading for Phuket

PHUKET: Saphan Hin in Phuket Town is known to attract all manner of interesting vehicles, but next week will mark a first for the park when it will host the “Muse Mobile”, a mobile museum project created by The National Discovery Museum Institute (NDMI).

The event runs from July 26 to October 31 near the Chinese Shrine at Saphan Hin public park.

“We are glad to have the exhibition here in Phuket to educate children and other visitors about Thailand’s history,” said Phuket City Municipality Mayor Somjai Suwansupan, who announced the event yesterday.

The exhibit takes its guests back about 2,000 years to a time when Thailand was called Suvarnabhumi “The Land of Gold”, explained Suppakorn Poonyarith, NDMI Acting Head of Museums Network and Knowledge Development Department.

“The content for the Muse Mobile was drawn from some of the exhibitions currently on display at Museum of Siam in Bangkok,” he said.

Muse Mobile comprises of four separate exhibits: “What is real Thai?”; “Where is Suvarnabhumi?”; “Bangkok Portrayed Under the Image of Ayutthaya” and “The Turning Point of Thailand”.

In addition to the four exhibits, Mr Suppakorn explained there would be interactive activities for guests to learn more about Suvarnabhumi and the ancient forebears of present day Thais.

“Tour groups interested in the visiting Muse Mobile should contact the Phuket Town Municipality office,” said Mayor Somjai.

Admission to the Muse Mobile is free of charge.
