Laguna Phuket Golf Club gets an upgrade
PHUKET: The Laguna Phuket Golf Club will begin a comprehensive course upgrade on July 1, aimed at significantly improving its complete golf experience as a world-class, five-star golfing facility.
The entire project is estimated to take a maximum of 18 months to complete, with the upgraded 18-hole course scheduled for full operation by January 1, 2015.
”During recent years the combination of age, drainage, soil structure and contamination of grasses has affected the overall quality of our playing surfaces,” said the Club’s Assistant Director of Golf, Paul Wilson, who will oversee the upgrade.
”This project will see significant investments made to improve tee box areas, bunkers, green complexes, practice facilities, drainage, irrigation and all playing surfaces.”
”Although these works may cause some inconvenience to our members and guests, we believe they are necessary to bring our course right up to a true world-class standard that will be appreciated by everyone who plays here,” he said.
During the upgrade the 18-hole course will be reduced to nine holes from July 1, with members and guests initially having access to the existing front nine holes which can be played twice for a full round.
When the upgrade of the back nine holes is complete, the procedure will be reversed, with the back nine made available for play while the front nine are upgraded.
The Laguna Phuket Golf Club was the host for the 2009 Singha Thailand Open and the Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand 2010. The Club is Phuket’s only resort golf course and is staffed by qualified PGA professionals.
