La Samudra takes the lead

PHUKET: Scott Duncanson and the crew aboard Securicor Som Tam Express were first across the finish line again today in both races on the second day of the Evason Phuket Race Week – but not by a large enough margin to repeat yesterday’s outright win.

On corrected time, Som Tam was overtaken in Race 2 in the IRC 1 class by both La Samudra and, by a margin of just 14 seconds, Ruby Tuesday.

In Race 3, the order was repeated, moving La Samudra into first place overall, Ruby Tuesday second and Som Tam third.

In the IRC 2 class, Mick Kealy’s Minx scored a 1st and a 2nd to top the standings, with Cinders second overall and Simba third, while in Club class, Christine Corfield’s Rastegaissa IV took line honors and first place in Race 2, but then started too early in Race 3, earning maximum points for On Course Side.

Maddalena, with a first and second place today, tops the overall standings.

In the Multihull Racing class, Voodoo Child, with Olaf Riese at the helm, won both of today’s races, followed in both cases by Henry Kaye’s Charro. Due to a poor showing yesterday, however, Voodoo Child is still behind Charro on overall points.

In Multihull Premier, Chris Sieber’s Kilo won Race 2 but was unable to repeat the success in Race 3, leaving victory to Bob Mott’s Chameleon, which leads the class after the first two days.
