Kamala Fest 2010 underway in Phuket
KAMALA, PHUKET: The three-day Kamala Fest 2009 got underway this morning with a fishing competition, followed by a fancy parade in the afternoon.
The official opening ceremony will be at the auspicious time of 6:39pm, when Phuket Governor Wichai Phraisa-ngop will ring a bell to declare the festival open. There will also be a fireworks display.
Song and dance performances will start at about 7pm on all three nights, with headline acts taking the stage around 11pm.
Tonight’s headline act is the Kangkeng Band.
Feature acts on Saturday and Sunday nights are Hin Lek Fai and the Sharma Band, respectively.
The center of activity will be the stage area at HM The King’s Park, in front of the Kamala Public Health Office.
Hopefully the weather will cooperate, as Phuket has been getting unusually heavy rain in what is statistically the island’s driest month.
The Meteorological Department’s 24-hour weather forecast for Phuket from 5pm today calls for scattered thundershowers over 40% of the island, with isolated heavy rain.
