Drowning victim identified

KARON: The foreigner who drowned off Karon Beach on October 13 has been identified as 53-year-old Per-arne Sivertsen of Norway. Pol Capt Chana Sutimard, of Chalong Police Station told the Gazette, “Today I received a call from a member of the reception staff at the South Sea Resort to tell me that a guest who was supposed to check out today had not shown up, and wondering whether he might be the person who had drowned a week before. “We went to the hotel and found a briefcase in his room, containing a passport with a photograph that looked very similar to the victim. “The hotel told us that Mr Sivertsen had left his key at reception on October 13 and had not collected it since. They assumed that he had gone traveling, intending to return after a few days.” The Norwegian embassy in Thailand has been contacted in order to arrange for the repatriation of Mr Siversten’s body.
