Desperate Phuket mother turns to spirit medium to find missing daughter

PHUKET: The mother of missing 7-year-old Nong Dear has resorted to consulting a spirit medium after police efforts have failed to yield any results in the week the girl has been missing (story here).
“It’s been a week now; I know police are working hard, but they are still unable to find my daughter,” Jaroon Papkaew said. “I didn’t know what else to do, so I approached a spirit medium as an alternative way to find my beloved girl.”
During the ceremony led by the spirit medium this morning, Mrs Jaroon lit candles and incense and offered food to spirits at the big banyan tree opposite Wat Thai.
“The medium told us that Nong Dear was still alive, but something was preventing her from showing herself to those searching for her. She is in some mysterious or hidden place within the empty field across from Wat Thai,” Mrs Jaroon said.
“The police and rescue workers might not believe in this kind of thing, so they need information and proof before they come to inspect the area.”
After questioning about 20 local residents, and getting 20 different stories, police have assigned five undercover officers to the case, said Capt Thada Sodarak of the Chalong Police.
Mrs Jaroon took matters into her own hands and started clearing the grass in the empty field, searching for her daughter.
“Residents were happy to quickly join in and help me clear the grass. All of the residents are supporting me in my search,” Mrs Jaroon said. “Even if the search seems hopeless, I will not lose hope.”
