Date set for OrBorJor elections
PHUKET: Phuket Election Committee (PEC) Director Supap Akkam has announced that the Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (OrBorJor) elections – one specifically to elect a new OrBorJor president and another to elect a new OrBorJor council – will be held on April 20.
K. Supap explained that the election date satisfied statutory requirements for elections to be held within 60 days of the president resigning and within 45 days of the end of the OrBorJor council term.
Anchalee Vanich Tephabutra resigned as OrBorJor president on March 1 to avoid any accusations that she may be abusing her position as president to influence voters. Under Election Commission law, an election for the position of OrBorJor president must be held before April 29, K. Supap explained.
Also, the current OrBorJor term ends on Thursday, March 13. An election to determine a new OrBorJor council must be held before April 27, he added.
“People can check whether they are registered on the electoral roll after April 1,” K. Supap said.
Candidates for either election must register at Phuket Community Hall between March 17 and 21.
