Photos showing stray dogs in Pattaya with their mouths taped shut have ignited a heated debate on social media, raising questions about animal cruelty.

A Facebook post revealed images of around 10 dogs with taped mouths in Soi Pattaya-Na Kluea 12, located in Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri. Some of the dogs were also seen carrying water bottles around their necks.

The individual responsible for feeding these dogs is believed to have taped their mouths to prevent them from biting people.

A security guard in the area reported that the dogs frequently bark and have attacked tourists walking along the street.

Residents stated that the dogs remain in this condition throughout the day, except during their feeding time.

The post has garnered numerous comments. Many social media users condemned the act as animal cruelty, highlighting that the vinyl tape prevents the dogs from drinking water during the hot weather and suggesting that proper dog muzzles should have been used instead.

“This is inhumane. The dogs can’t drink water and suffer in the heat.”

Others defended the action, citing the aggressive nature of the dogs and their history of attacking passersby.

“This is necessary for public safety. These dogs have hurt people before.”

There were calls for local officials and animal welfare agencies to inspect the area.

The debate continues as the community remains divided on whether the actions taken were justified or constitute animal cruelty, reported Bangkok Post.
