Insurance fraud in Krabi
A 31 year old local chicken vendor, Nattareeya Boonchoo, has spoken about ‘insurance’ she bought for her son that cost her 5,500 Baht. After paying for 2 months, the insurance representative, 35 year old Falipth Wonghan, disappeared – no certificate, no receipt. There are also other 10 other alleged victims from the same case.
“The man claimed that he’s the director of the insurance company offering insurance coverage valued at 100,000 Baht with a premium costing 19,696.04 per year. The day we signed the contract was January 1,” said Nattareeya.
“I didn’t want to pay in one amount so I asked him if I could pay over 3 months; I have already paid the first month for 5,500 Baht.
“After paying, he keeps coming up with excuses to give me a receipt claiming that the office hasn’t sent it to him. Lately, I checked with the insurance company he claimed he was working for and they told me that my name wasn’t in their system. There’s no record of my buying the insurance and the man isn’t from the company’s staff but a freelancer.”
She said that she knows the man through a woman she knew earlier. He initially sold her a supplement and he mentioned that he is also an insurance representative so she decided to buy it for her son. After receiving her money, he said that the insurance document would be sent to her address within 30 days while insisting that if son is admitted in a hospital during that time, the insurance money will be transferred to the bank account she gave to him. She says that, after recent contacts, he’s not responding to calls and messages and disappeared.
