A man was arrested after he allegedly stole a backhoe excavating tractor and smashed the digging bucket into a motorcycle and a police pickup truck. 42 year old Rungniran Songsan was charged with theft and criminal damage.

Police were called to the scene after Rungniran allegedly took off on the backhoe in a rural road in Pathum Thani, north of Bangkok, and damaged a construction contractor’s motorbike. Police blocked the road with the department’s pickup truck, but Rungniran allegedly used the backhoe to push the truck into a nearby canal, causing severe damages to the truck.

With Rungniran headed in the direction of a busy night market just 400 metres away, police stopped the backhoe by firing shots at the tractor’s engine.

Police arrested Rungniran. They say he also tested positive for drugs.
