Pickup crash in Chiang Kham causes district-wide power outage
A dramatic incident unfolded when a speeding pickup truck careened off a curve and crashed into an electricity pole, plunging an entire district into darkness. The power outage affected Chiang Kham district, where local electricity authority officials promptly worked to restore power.
Yesterday, November 19, a rescue team from the Siam Phayao Foundation’s main office in Chiang Kham responded to a report from residents. The accident occurred on a curved bypass road in Ban That Sob Waen, Moo 1, Yuan subdistrict, Chiang Kham district, Phayao province.
Upon arriving at the scene, rescuers discovered a white Mitsubishi pickup, registered in Phayao, had veered off the road and collided with a high-voltage electricity pole. The impact caused a power outage across the district.
Rescue workers swiftly assisted the driver, identified as 38 year old Kraisorn, a local. He sustained a significant injury to the left side of his face, with a deep wound on his left cheek, and was quickly transported to Chiang Kham Hospital for medical treatment.
Sarawut Katib, a rescue official, explained the incident in more detail.
“It appears the driver might have lost control at the curve, crashing into road signs before slamming into the high-voltage pole, resulting in severe damage to the vehicle’s front and causing the pole to tilt, leading to the power disruption across the district.”
The driver, who suffered a deep laceration on his left cheek, received immediate assistance from the rescue team. Following the accident, the local electricity authority in Chiang Kham took swift action to resolve the power outage.
A 25-ton crane was coordinated to help stabilise and realign the high-voltage pole, allowing for the vehicle to be safely retrieved later, reported KhaoSod.
In related news, a Subaru vehicle veered off the road and overturned in a grassy area along the Kaset-Nawamin Road. Police are actively searching for the driver, questioning whether alcohol might have been involved. The incident was reported at 3.35am on November 19 to the Khok Kram Police Station.
